1991 Mazda Eunos 1.6 in Classic Red
Another lovely example here and this time its a 1991 Mazda Eunos 1.6 in Classic Red with black cloth seats and trim. The previous owner had the car for over 11 years and must have spent a huge amount of time and money on it as its in lovely condition and has lots of interesting parts fitted. The obvious ones are the the Jass Performance instruments, alloy gear knob and surround trim, red interior footwell lights, quilted door panels, polished handbrake handle and interior door handle trim and electric window toggle switches. The engine bay has also had some money spent on it with a powder coated cam cover, Moroso alloy high capacity radiator along with after market electric fans, silicone plug leads etc.
And there’s the bits you can’t see such as Gaz adjustable suspension and Wipac polycarbonate headlights. The GAZ suspension is of a really nice quality and while the car sits very slightly lower than standard, the ride quality is very good and it handles beautifully. It also has a set of original daisy alloys which have been powder coated and are fitted with a matching set of Dunlop tyres. Brake discs and pads are new all round and brake calipers look like they have been replaced fairly recently too.
Specification includes electric windows, power steering, stainless steel sill treadplates with matching door speaker surrounds and a Momo steering wheel. The engine bay is very smart as mentioned while the boot is clean and tidy and it has its original space saver spare wheel, jack and wheel brace.
The whole car is in lovely condition with great bodywork and good paint and no rust anywhere. Sills must have had minor repairs in the past and are in good, solid condition. I'm pretty certain the underside has never been welded and again, is completely solid. If you look at subframes and suspension components, these are in way better condition than they should be for a car of this age - everything is smart, clean and in nice condition. I'm guessing the car must have been garaged for the condition to be this good. It has a relatively new black vinyl soft top fitted. again in good condition and it has a stainless steel style bar fitted.
Inside, everything is in nice condition. Seats, carpets and trim are all in good order. It has a Pioneer stereo fitted along with an immobiliser. Under the stereo, you can see a panel which house the electric window switches along with an 'Engine Start' button; this button is not connected and the car starts conventionally. Its also worth mentioning that the air-conditioning doesn't work.
Out on the road, this is just brilliant to drive and has one of the strongest 1.6 engines I have come across despite having covered 194300 kilometres (around 120,000 miles). It will pull in fifth gear from below rpm and yet will sit on the motorway at daft speeds if required. It pulls really strongly and will spin round to the red line easily while the gear change is superb. The clutch feel and brakes are all just as they should be. Handling is typical MX5 ie brilliant fun and its just lovely to drive. As with all of my sales cars, I like to stick a good 2-300 miles on them and then go through them carefully, checking everything and carrying out a major service. This one has had new filters, new spark plugs, fluids changed (engine, dif and gearbox oil), new brake fluid, handbrake adjusted, electric window mechanisms cleaned and lubricated, hood drain holes cleared, ignition timing re-set and lots more. It drives the way a good MX5 should. It has the original jack, wheel brace, space saver spare wheel and its showing as clear from previous accidents and misdemeanours on the HPI register. Its MOT tested until June but I will include 12 months MOT for the new owner.
It looks like this car has only covered around 3000 miles over the last 7 or so years. Its not perfect by any means (its 33 years old so please take that into account) with the odd bit of trim having seen better days (boot carpet for example) but even so, I’m just delighted with it as its one of the nicest cars to drive that I've had in for quite a while and I reckon someone is going to just love this. Price is £4995.
