Mazda Eunos V-Special 1.6 Automatic
I have this Mazda Eunos 1.6 V-Special automatic for sale. Finished in Neo Green with tan leather seats, this was originally registered in Japan in 1993 and is in just lovely condition throughout.
Specification is very good and includes electric windows, power steering, air conditioning, a Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel with matching handbrake handle and stainless steel sill tread plates. However unusually, this one also has a driver’s airbag and even rarer, an ABS braking system.
Bodywork is everything on an MX5/Eunos and on this one, its exceptionally good. There is no rust on wheel arches, sills, wings etc – in fact you can still see the original spot weld marks on the rear wheel arch lips which is usually a good sign that the car hasn’t been repaired/filled etc. A car of this age (32 years old) will have had some structural repairs at some point in its life but a close inspection shows it to be sound and strong underneath with solid floors, lower sills etc and just a small near-invisible repair to the sill on the driver’s side. All running gear, subframes and suspension are in good clean order. Paintwork is very good too with no scratches or scuffs to worry about. Its sitting on its original 14” ‘Daisy’ alloy wheels (in good condition) and these are fitted with a decent set of tyres, again all in good condition. The tan vinyl soft top (with plastic window) looks to be quite new and is in good order. There is a matching tan coloured tonneau cover which looks terrific when fitted.
Inside, the leather seats show some wear in line with their age but are otherwise in good condition with no splits. Carpets and trim are in good order: everything inside is nice and clean and the interior has a lovely retro feel to it. Its fitted with a Panasonic radio/CD player which sounds good. Everything inside works as it should including the electric windows. All drain holes have been checked and cleared.
Mechanically its all good too: the engine is typical MX5 in that it feels sweet and strong and will rev seemingly forever and loves being wound up hard. The automatic gearbox works perfectly as does the overdrive unit. I know from past experience that the gear selector on these autos can feel quite sloppy and imprecise but this one has had its linkages and bushes replaced and feels tight and precise.
In preparation for its sale, its just been comprehensively checked over and serviced with new oil, spark plugs and filters. Electric windows have been cleaned and greased as have door locks, drain holes cleared, handbrake adjusted etc, The brakes are in good order with discs and pads having with plenty of life. Suspension is as it should be and a drive shows that the ride quality is good while still retaining its excellent handling. Its MOT tested until October 2024 but I’ll include 12 months for the new owner.
There is a huge box file full of receipts showing work carried out over the years. More relevant is the work carried out over the last couple of years which includes a complete replacement cambelt kit including all belts and a new water pump, both front suspension arms have been replaced, its had new rear brake calipers and pads, a new gel battery, new silicone spark plug leads and new heater pipes. Its been regularly serviced over the years and this may explain why the car drives so well. It performs and handles just as a good MX5 should and I reckon its better than most. Its covered an indicated 136322km (around 85200 miles) and the records show that its covered just over 10,000 miles in the last ten years. Its clearly a car that has been cherished and very well looked after and its hard to believe its 31 years old – this could easily be used every day. This really is the painless way into classic/fun car ownership.
This is a really nice example of a good Eunos V-Special and is simply a joy to drive. As well as the file full of paperwork, I have the original Japanese owner’s books, an English language owner’s book, a workshop manual, the original tool kit and two keys. A check on the HPI register shows it as being clear from previous accident damage. Its been prepared so that its ready to be used and enjoyed immediately – someone’s going to love this. Price is £4750.
