Mazda Eunos 1.6 V-Special 1991
Always popular, this is a 1991 1.6 V-Special finished in Neo Green with tan leather seats and trim. Its covered around 159300km (99,000 miles) and has had a small fortune spent on it by us over the last few weeks.
Specification includes electric windows, power steering, stainless steel sill tread plates, Nardi wood gearknob, handbrake handle and matching steering wheel (and while I'm certain that this isn't a genuine Nardi wheel, it still looks good). Its in lovely condition throughout and looks terrific. It also has one special trick up its sleeve which I'll mention later...
Both sills have had good quality repairs to their rear ends (inner and outer) and are now solid and sound. Inner wheel arches, lower sills, floors etc are all solid and the underside has just been treated with Dinitrol. Suspension, subframes suspension arms etc are all reasonably tidy too. The actual bodywork is also very good indeed with good wheel arches, sills, and wings with no rust. Paintwork is very good too with no notable dents or scratches. Its fitted with a black mohair soft top complete with glass window and its sitting on a set of original 14" 'Daisy' alloy wheels which have just been fitted with two new rear tyres. Its sitting on very slightly lower suspension and while it handles like a go-kart, the ride quality is particularly good too.
Inside its in good order with some creasing to the leather seats as expected on a 35 year old car. Predictably, the air con no longer works though everything else does and its a nice place to be. Its fitted with a Pioneer stereo complete with £140-worth of Focal door speakers which sound good and since the photos were taken, I have fitted a replacement aerial. Purists will notice that some of the carpets which would usually be tan in colour, have been replaced with black ones and its a colour scheme that works well.
Under the bonnet, its all smart and tidy; its just had a new Cam Angle Sensor 'O' ring fitted along with new cam cover gasket. Brake master cylinder and brake fluid have been replaced too. Apart from a full service (new spark plugs engine oil, diff oil, air filter etc), its also had new brake discs all round along with new brake pads (Green Stuff pads on the front) and it has braided brake pipes to all calipers. Its just been through the workshop and has been checked over using my 87-point check-list: this includes all sorts of things such as state of hood catches, battery condition, hood drain holes, door locks, underbody check, right down to ensuring the cigar lighter works.
I mentioned a special trick and here it is: despite having a standard exhaust and air filter, the engine on this one feels very strong and sweet indeed - I'd argue stronger than most 1.6s and at least as strong as a good 1.8. What do I mean by that? Well its feels like it has bags of torque and it loves being revved hard, right round to the red line with ease. It genuinely flies and this makes it an absolute blast to drive. It will belt along at today's typical motorway speeds but its even better on a decent country road thanks to the suspension which feels terrific. Clutch, gearchange and brakes are all just spot-on. I've covered a good 300 miles in this and its just terrific.
It has its original space-saver spare wheel, jack and wheel brace and it has two keys. Its MOT'd until March 2027 and has a file full of old receipts and MOT certificates. Its not immaculate - its still a 35 year-old car - but its smart and very useable. Price is £5650. I'm chuffed with this one and its highly recommended.
STATUS: Now Sold BUT I have another very similar car currently being prepared.
