Mazda Eunos 1.8 1993 in Stone Silver
This 1993 Mazda Eunos 1.8 is now offered for sale and its finished in Stone Silver with black cloth seats and trim. This one has had the same owner for 19 years and is in lovely condition throughout.
Specification is pretty good and includes electric windows and mirrors, power steering, and a Momo leather-rimmed steering wheel. Its covered around 117300 kilometres (about 73300 miles) and its just lovely to drive. Over the last few months, its had a fairly major refresh though it was in pretty good good condition to start with. More on that in a moment.
Its often tricky to work out the history of an older car but it looks like this one was imported to the UK in 2006. It started life as an automatic and was sold to an older gentleman who clearly gave the car a very easy life. In fact he used the car very sparingly and over the last ten years, covered an average of 1000 miles per year. Late last year, he passed away and the car was bought by a trader friend who had some bodywork issues sorted out by an MX5 specialist and converted the auto ‘box to a standard 5 speed manual one complete with a new clutch etc.
Bodywork is such a big deal on an MX5/Eunos and on this one, its very good indeed. There is no rust on wheel arches, sills, wings etc. Underneath, floors, lower sills chassis rails etc are all in strong and sound condition. All running gear, subframes and suspension are in good clean order. As mentioned it recently had some proper repairs to the sills and rear wheel arches. These were properly cut out and new sections welded in place: I have photos of this too. Paintwork is good too with just the odd minor stone chip and light scratch commensurate with its age. Its still a good looking and very presentable car though. Its sitting on a set of 15” Mazda California alloy wheels (in good condition) and these are fitted with a matching set of Federal tyres, again all in good condition. The black mohair soft top (with glass window) is also in good order with no splits or leaks.
Inside, its all in pretty good, clean condition. Seats, carpets and trim are in good order and its a nice place to be and has a proper ‘classic car’ feel to it. Its just been fitted with a modern stereo complete with Bluetooth facility and it also has speakers in the headrests, great for listening to music with the top down. Everything inside works as it should including the electric windows.
Mechanically its all good too: the engine is typical MX5 in that it feels sweet and strong and loves to be revved hard. There are no leaks or odd noises and it holds its temperature in all conditions. Gearbox, clutch and brakes are all just as they should be. As usual I like to cover a good 250 miles in all of my sales cars and I can confirm that this one drives as a good MX5 should.
Its been fitted with new height-adjustable coil-over suspension. Ride height is actually pretty well standard and the car stays nicely flat when pushing on a bit. Its definitely great fun blasting around the local country lanes.
In preparation for its sale, its just been comprehensively checked over. In fact whenever I prepare a car for sale, I use my own MX5-based checklist which covers 80+ points and ensures that even the detail stuff is checked and any issues spotted and attended to. This includes all sorts of things such as hood catches, drain holes, electric windows, door locks, condition of coolant hoses right down to the state of the cigarette lighter. It means the car is fit for purpose and should behave and drive just as a good MX5 should. Accordingly this one has just been serviced with new oil, spark plugs and filters. Electric windows have been cleaned and greased as have door locks, drain holes cleared, handbrake adjusted etc, Its MOT tested until August 2026. In addition to the above, if the car sells at its asking price, I will include a 6 month warranty via Warranty First, which covers the major mechanical items (details on request).
There is a file full of receipts showing work carried out over the years along with lots of old MOT certificates etc. This could easily be used every day and it really is the painless way into classic/fun car ownership and price is a firm £4995.
I have also produced a short Youtube video which is very well worth watching; here’s the link: https://youtu.be/vxo-3tySnk8
