Mazda MX5 Mk2.5 1.8 Arizona Special Edition 2002
I have this 2002 Mazda MX5 1.8 Arizona for sale, finished in Eternal Red with black leather heated seats. Supplied new by Leamington Mazda, its in lovely condition and has a good service history (seven stamps in the service book) and a big pile of receipts and has now covered 93000 miles. Specification includes electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking, leather-rimmed steering wheel with matching leather gear knob and handbrake handle, black mohair soft top and an aluminium style and wind blocker.
This is the 1.8 version so 143bhp with a 5 speed gearbox and a Torsen 4.1 limited slip dif along with 15” Enkei wheels (which have recently been refurbished). Only 1000 Arizona models were produced with only 120 1.8 models in Eternal Red.
This has just been serviced (new oil, filter, air filter, NGK spark plugs etc) and is MOT tested until April 2023. Significantly, it had its front chassis legs repaired by MX5 specialists Sam Goodwin at a cost just in excess of £1000. This is a notorious rust problem on Mk2/Mk2.5 Mazdas and I guarantee that 80% of all such cars will have issues in this area so the fact that its been repaired properly is a big deal. The bodywork is in lovely condition and I can see that the wheel arches have been repaired in the past and are now smart and solid. There is no rust on wheel arches, wings sills etc. Underneath its in reasonably clean condition and its had a new Klarius exhaust system fitted (from the cat back) and has new rear anti roll bar links fitted. Within the last year or so, its also had a new battery and alternator, fitted while the cambelt was replaced at 61,000 miles.I have just cleaned and treated the black mohair soft top. It still has the original owners handbook pack, service book and it has two keys. The cherished number plate will remain on the car: to be clear, its a 2002 model.
Inside its in smart, clean condition with little wear to the leather seats (the odd crease but no holes or splits), good carpets and clean trim. Everything works as it should and its a nice place to be. I have just fitted replacement door speakers; the stereo sounds great but I should mention that the electric no longer goes up and down and has been left in the ‘up’ position. It has its original alloy style bars fitted along with a wind blocker. The boot area is nice and clean and it has its original space saver spare wheel, jack and wheel brace all present along with the locking wheel nut key.
Out on the road and its exceptional to drive: performance is strong and the clutch, gearbox and brakes are all just as they should be. The engine sounds as smooth as anything and has no leaks. Its equally at home on the motorway or better still on a twisting country road where the handling is just excellent with good ride quality and no unwanted squeaks or rattles. I have already covered a good 200 miles in this and - this almost hurts me to say this as a Mk1 owner - its just so much nicer to drive than a Mk1. Its smoother, faster, quieter, handles better and is so much easier on the motorway. Its not as raw as the Mk1 which may or may not be a good thing depending on what you want from your Mazda. There are no rattles, no squeaks and no other odd noises: its brilliant to drive.
This is a lovely car that has been properly prepared and its good to go and be enjoyed by someone. Price is £2995. I also have a video of the car which can be viewed by clicking this link: MX5 Mk2.5 Arizona
