Mazda Eunos 1.6 in Black
I reckon this one may have started life as a 1993 Mazda Eunos 1.6 V-Special but its been mildly modified and has had various trim parts replaced over the years so the 'V-Special' name really is no longer relevant. What it is however, is a very well looked after car that drives extremely well indeed. Its finished in Brilliant Black and has an unusual interior with tan carpets and trim, black leather Mk2 seats, a Nardi leather rimmed steering wheel and wood gear knob and handbrake handles. It sounds odd but just look at the photos: it works really well and looks terrific.
Specification includes electric windows. power steering, stainless steel sill tread plates and matching stainless steel speaker surrounds. The black leather seats are in good condition with tears or holes and it has a flocked instrument binnacle along with a Richbrook chrome gear selector surround and matching chrome heater vent rings. The JVC cd player sounds good and works well.
Bodywork is in excellent condition with no rust in any of the usual places: sills have very recently been repaired to a high standard with corrosion cut out and new sections welded in place. Its solid, strong and tidy. Wheel arches, wings, windscreen surround etc are all in good condition. Underneath, its all in solid condition; the floor has never been welded and its in good order. It has a duck tail boot spoiler fitted which suits the car. Paintwork is pretty good with a few minor stone-chips here and there and the odd minor scratch but nothing that detracts from the car and nothing that wold not be expected on a car of this age. It look very smart and is genuinely a good looking car.
Suspension components are in good order. As mentioned it had Gaz Fixed Height suspension fitted a few years ago and its had recent replacement steering tie rods and anti-roll bar links fitted. All ball joints and bushes etc are in good condition.
Under the bonnet, it has the standard Jap Spec 115bhp engine along with a five speed gearbox (ignore the six speed gear knob - its definitely a five speed gearbox). It has a performance cone air filter fitted along with Jackson Racing silicone spark plug leads. It also has a stainless steel performance exhaust system fitted from the cat back and this sounds really lovey while not being any louder than standard. Hi-Teck Motorsport tested it on a rolling road and it produced a very impressive 119bhp (print out provided) and out on the road it certainly feels strong. The radiator has been replaced within the last couple of years.
Wheels are 15" five spoke and are fitted with a matching set of Toyo Proxes, all in excellent condition. The soft top is a standard black vinyl item and its in OK condition with the rear window showing signs of age BUT if the asking price is met, I will fit a brand new hood. The standard (rubbish) headlights have been fitted with Halogen H4 units - a very well worth while upgrade.
Its really very good to drive and feels quick with a perfect gearbox and clutch. Performance is particularly good and it pulls very well through the gears and holds its temperature perfectly. There are no odd noises and it handles really well. I get to drive lots of MX5s and I know how a good one should feel and this one is just right. Its showing an indicated 161766 km BUT I reckon this car had a speedometer change some 13 years ago so I cannot be certain of the actual mileage. The MOT history shows a mix of readings in kilometres and miles which doesn't help but seems to be standard on old Mazdas these days. I think the best I can do is tell you its probably covered over 100,000 miles and probably less than 200,000 miles. In any case, any MX5/Eunos should always be bought based on condition (there are so many low mileage cars around that drive horribly). This one won't disappoint.
The last owner was a real enthusiast and looked after the car properly, servicing it regularly. There is a large collection of paperwork with lots of old receipts and MOT certificates and a HPI checks show it to be free from previous accident damage. I have checked the car over and have serviced it with new oil and filters and new NGK spark plugs and I will include a new MOT. Price is £2900.
