Mazda Eunos 1.6 in Stone Silver

Finding a clean rust free Eunos continues to be surprisingly difficult so I’m really pleased to be able to be able to offer this lovely example for sale. It’s a Mazda Eunos 1.6 finished in Stone Silver and condition of the bodywork in particular is excellent and is by some margin, better than your average Eunos. It was first registered in Japan in April 1991 and has covered 167965km (about 105,000 miles).

Specification includes power steering, electric windows and stainless steel sill tread plates. However, its had a few cosmetic upgrades which include a newly fitted black mohair soft top in excellent condition, black leather seats, black leather gaiters for both gear selector and handbrake, clear repeaters, tinted front indicators, stainless steel, front mesh grill, offset front number plate and 15" Rota alloys. The current Eunos steering wheel is about to be removed and replaced with an original Momo wheel (which I reckon will look better any way).

Bodywork is excellent with near-perfect sills, wheel arches, wings etc. I should emphasize that there is no rust on the bodywork. If you run your finger around the rear inner wheel arch lip for example, its beautifully clean and in perfect condition. Interestingly, the car was sold by well known MX5 specialist, The MX5 Restorer back in November 2019 for £4250. Gareth is famed for the quality of his body repairs and he carried out one on the driver's side sill which has been done to incredible standard.

The only points worth noting is that the rear spoiler has some faint micro blisters on it and there are a couple of minor light scratches/stonechips. But by any standard, its an exceptionally straight, solid and clean car.

Underneath it’s the same story: exceptionally clean and solid. I reckon now is a good time to treat the underside with Dynax (which is much better than conventional underseal) and I’ll do this before its sale. It looks like springs and shocks have been replaced in the not too distant past. All suspension arms, subframes etc are nice and clean. Its been fitted with stainless steel braided brake pipes and Pagid brake pads. It has a Cobra twin exit stainless steel exhaust system fitted which gives a subtle burble without being loud.

Inside, everything is nice and clean and in working order. The seats are in good condition with none of the usual wear on the seat bolsters. Carpets, door trim, dashboard etc are all smart and tidy. The JVC stereo works well and sounds good too.

Mechanically its in excellent condition. The engine feels particularly strong and to loves to be revved hard. Around 3000 miles ago, it had a new cam cover gasket and CAS ‘O’ ring along with a coolant flush and new coolant. Its also just been serviced and I will ensure that it has a new MOT certificate before its sale. I have carried out a thorough inspection and brakes, clutch and gearbox are all as they should be. This one drives extremely well too - I get to drive lots of MX5s and out on the road, this drives just as a good Eunos should; its just brilliant fun to blast along the country lanes and handling is wonderful.

This has been HPi checked which shows a good history with no previous accident damage. I have a folder of old receipts and paperwork and there are two keys for the car. Again I want to emphasis that this is in way above average condition and will no doubt be loved by its new owner. Price is a firm £3850 - no offers on this one: you’ll struggle to find better for the money.
