MX5 MK2.5 1.6 Euphonic
Another nice MK2.5 for sale: this time its a 2003 Mazda MX5 1.6 Euphonic finished in Brilliant Black with spectacular black and red leather seats and matching trim. Supplied new by Perrys Mazda in Preston, this has now covered 97450 miles and is in lovely condition throughout. The previous two owners were real enthusiasts and as a result, a huge amount of well-considered work has been carried out on the car.
Specification includes electric windows, power steering, central locking, immobiliser, twin airbags, electric mirrors, a roll bar and a decent CD player complete with electric aerial. The already fabu-lous interior is finished off with stainless steel vent rings and white instrument faces. Its fitted with 16” alloy wheels and these have a matching set of Nankang tyres fitted, all in good condition. It has a black mohair soft top complete with glass heated rear window: this was replaced in 2018 so its in excellent condition.
• The rear brake callipers were replaced around 2000 miles ago along with new drilled brake discs and new EBC Green Stuff pads.
• New alternator fitted in February 2020
• New Cambelt fitted in (February 2020
• Its just had spark plugs replaced and oil and filters were changed 200 miles ago. A Pipercross performance air filter was also recently fitted.
It also has Halo DRL spotlights fitted (in place of the original foglights) and the headlight bulbs have been upgraded to take new HB3 Super White Xenon High Beam headlights - great for night-time driving. Another nice upgrade is the fitting of a genuine Mazda engine strut brace.
Bodywork is very good. Wheel arches are sound, solid and rust-free, as are sills and wings. There are a few light scratches here and there but nothing more. The nose cone has been repainted at some point and the finish is very slightly different under close inspection. Underneath its all very good: again sills and the underside are sound and free from corrosion. The sills have been re-paired in the past but this looks to be a quality repair and they are really solid. The front chassis rails are sound and solid too. Its a remarkably sound and honest example of an MX5.
The drivetrain is excellent of course: the engine is strong and smooth and it performs really well but as its a 1.6, its cheaper to insure and is very good on fuel (last owner was getting 38mpg on average). There are no oil leaks and it holds its temperature perfectly. The clutch is spot on as is the gearbox. Its genuinely lovely to drive and handles beautifully too with no odd noises or rattles.
Inside everything is nice and clean. The leather seats have a few creases here and there but only as to be expected with a 17 year old car – they are in nice condition. All trim including the dash-board, centre console and door trim is in good condition as are the carpets. Everything works as it should too.
I have the original Owner’s Handbook pack for the car along with two keys. The car is showing as free from accident damage etc on the HPI register. Its MOT tested until March next year. It has been well serviced and has just been thoroughly checked over by me. It drives as a good MX5 should with good performance and wonderful handling. There are no weird or wonderful noises, no rattles or squeaks – it drives exceptionally well and should offer hassle-free open top fun. Price is £2750.
